#SOSPatentAbuse

We need your stories to stop patent abuse against SMEs

Have you ever been on the receiving end of an attack by Patent Assertion Entities (PAEs), also known as patent trolls? Have you ever received a threatening letter from a PAE claiming that your company has infringed a patent?

You may be an executive from a small company, or a patent lawyer who has worked for such a company. If you have then please tell us about it. You can remain anonymous if you prefer.

We are trying to get Europe’s patent enforcement laws tightened to make it harder for PAEs to game the system and attack SMEs. Not surprisingly, firms that have been attacked don’t want to talk publicly about it. Especially if they settled out of court.

Limited data on how SMEs have been attacked by PAEs in courts in Europe exists. However, we believe this data is only the tip of the iceberg, as most of the attacks happen before litigation actually takes place and SMEs prefer to settle rather than facing expensive and protracted court battles.

In order to ensure Europe’s patent laws are tightened up and work in favour of SMEs, we need concrete, real-life examples of threats and attacks made against SMEs.

All the information you share will be treated confidentially and will only be used with your consent.
